Aftercare
Your design is still developing. Here's how to get the deepest, longest-lasting stain.
Before you book jagua: natural does not mean hypoallergenic. Read the allergy note.Keep it dry
Let the paste dry 20–40 minutes. Leave the paste on for at least 2–6 hours; 8 hours or overnight is best. The golden rule: the longer, the better. Avoid getting the design wet for at least 24 hours — that includes showering, swimming, washing dishes, and heavy sweating.
Let it breathe
Don't cover your henna with tight clothing, cling wrap, or non-permeable bandages. HK Aftercare Tape or HK Sealant Spray is the best way to seal it.
Skip the soap
Never wash henna off with water. Scrape the dried paste off with a balm or oil — coconut oil, shea butter, or argan oil. Avoid chlorine, saltwater, alcohol-based products, harsh soaps, and exfoliating the stain.
Stain development
Your design starts bright orange and deepens over 24–48 hours as it oxidizes. Keep the area warm during this window to reach a rich reddish-brown mature stain.
Moisturize
After the first 24 hours, apply a thin layer of natural oil — coconut, olive, or almond — 2–3 times a day. HK Aftercare Balm moisturizes and helps deepen the stain.
Exfoliate gently
After 1–2 weeks, once the stain is fading naturally, you can gently exfoliate with a washcloth to lift the remaining pigment.
Good to know
- Keep the stained area warm
- Avoid water as long as possible
- Minimize saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, and jacuzzis
- Keep skin hydrated
- Medications such as acne treatments and Accutane can affect stain development
- Skin type and body chemistry play a big role
- Don't sleep on a fresh design, it can still transfer
- Alcohol-based products accelerate fading
Before you book jagua
Jagua comes from a tropical fruit. Natural does not mean hypoallergenic. If you have a fruit or tropical fruit allergy, sensitive skin, or a known reaction to fructose or berries, jagua is not for you. A patch test is always recommended. Once the gel is on, moisture contact or falling asleep on it will smudge and stain — there is no shortcut to removing it.
